Survival of the Fittest: Business Process Outsourcing: The Key to Keeping up with the Industry and Regulatory Evolution

According to Darwin's "Survival of the Fittest'' principle, you can't guarantee success just by becoming bigger or smarter. In Darwin's theory, the ability to adapt to changing conditions is the key to success.

That same principle can be applied to today's global marketplace in general, and to your company's quest for a competitive edge in particular. Evolving technology and regulations are forcing companies to either learn to accommodate innovation and anticipate change or face extinction. To that end, many life science companies are meeting these challenges by outsourcing key clinical trial and submission processes. Senior managers in these innovative organizations are discovering that outsourcing affords them both the adaptability to be able to react to industry and regulatory changes, and the ability to focus on their core business.

The Survival of the Fittest Webinar will examine the global biopharmaceutical landscape, and explore the outsourcing opportunities and solutions available to life science companies seeking to become more efficient, effective and ready for whatever change comes next. Speakers will outline the current environment, take a look at what's on the horizon and, most importantly, discuss what your company can do to survive and thrive in this ever-changing drug development environment.

Featured Topics
  • Vicki Tauscher Phelan, pharmaceutical industry practice lead at the global outsourcing consultant firm EquaTerra, will break down the BPO trend and talk about what companies are looking for, what benefits they're seeing, and how lessons learned will shape the outsourcing future
  • Jeanie Kwon, Associate Director of ISI's consulting services, will talk about the business, economic and regulatory factors driving new types of process outsourcing, including the latest trend toward Knowledge Process Outsourcing, and how that's changing the way companies do business
  • Jeanie also will present the "Business Process Outsourcing checklist,'' an itemized inventory outlining what biopharmaceutical companies need to do to get the most out of their outsourcing investment dollar
  • A recent case study will outline how the right vendor partnership can be a transforming experience

About the Speakers
Vicki Tauscher Phelan, Life Sciences Practice Director for EquaTerra
Vicki has more than 20 years of expertise in IT, consulting and outsourcing. While she has worked in a wide range of industries - incorporating "best of breed" approaches and solutions into organizations' strategic plans - she has particular expertise in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to EquaTerra, Vicki was Managing Director of aligne, inc., an IT sourcing advisory firm, where she had direct involvement in more than 20 ITO transactions ranging from $15m to $4b in contract value. She was the driving force behind the development of aligne's successful healthcare outsourcing practice, which assisted over 30 healthcare organizations with their sourcing strategies. Before aligne, Vicki spent nearly 15 years in the Information Technology field, 12 of which were with IBM where she was responsible for partnering with senior-level executives in Fortune 100 corporations to develop their strategic information technology plans. Representative clients include GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Assurant Health, AstraZeneca and Cigna. Vicki holds a Master's Degree from Duke University in environmental engineering, law and business and an undergraduate degree from Allegheny College in environmental science.

Jeanie Kwon, Director, Regulatory Submissions for Image Solutions, Inc.
As a director in charge of supporting and overseeing service operations, project planning and regulatory submissions strategies at ISI, Jeanie Kwon is particularly qualified to discuss electronic submissions issues and solutions relevant to both global life science corporations and smaller, development-stage companies with limited budgets and scope. Kwon has a keen understanding of the advantages of getting beneficial new drugs and substances to market faster, safer and at a lower cost. She plays a key role in training and submission consultations at ISI, helping clients find new ways to navigate a regulated landscape which, by nature, tends to slow down development and increase costs.

Since coming to ISI almost a decade ago, Kwon has played a major role in establishing the processes and procedures necessary for ISI to assist clients in over 600 electronic submissions to regulators worldwide. And with average-performing drugs netting $1.1 million in daily prescription revenue, Kwon understands the impact of shaving a few days or a few weeks off the development timetable. As a popular conference and seminar speaker, Kwon is experienced at explaining the benefits of lifecycle management and the challenges pharmaceutical and biotech companies' face in converting to an electronic workflow.
