Chase Manhattan Project

Background

Commercial lending can be a profitable business, but only if the lender can quickly, easily and accurately review risks and comply with regulations. The process of creating and analyzing a credit portfolio typically requires compiling a wide variety of documents from various authors in different formats and physically diverse locations. The final result, such as an assessment of loans made to the retail industry, may result in a single "Portfolio Review" document of nearly 1,500 pages. Most importantly, the final product must be clearly presented to improve auditability and data quality.

Solution

Recognizing these specific challenges, Chase Manhattan chose ISI to streamline their Content Assembly and Publishing process. Using modules in Compose, ISI "connected" multiple authors, documents and formats. The result was significant. Now, the new system takes diverse formats, such as Excel, PDF, MSWord, and S&P Term sheets, and "distills" them all into a PDF format. It then repaginates the document, adds footers and creates a hyper-linked table of contents. There is no need for manually photocopying and placing a "hodge-podge" of documents into a binder. With their new system, Chase Manhattan's digital document appears consistent and polished, and can be printed, stored back into Lotus Notes and published on the web.

Benefits

ISI’s solution allows Chase Manhattan to produce a better product in less time. And, according to Chase's Director of Commercial Lending, the improved process is being tasked with a 300 percent increase in work as it is deployed for global use. With this amount of volume, Chase's investment in creating an internal system will produce much quicker returns than had they decided to continually outsource the publishing work.
